The Penobscot Bay Y and Rockland Harbor Y are looking for a part-time assistant teacher. Monday through Friday 11-5pm This position will work with infants through preschoolers to cover lunch breaks. Previous experience working with infants, toddlers and preschoolers, preferred. JOB DUTIES: Assist Head Teacher in the implementing of classroom activities. Supervise and monitor all classroom activity. Foster a healthy and safe classroom environment. Be aware of and adhere to all YMCA policies, DHHS licensing regulations, and NAEYC Accreditation Standards. Facilitate age appropriate, educational lessons on a daily basis under the direction of Head Teacher. Ensure that the classrooms are arranged in a functional and orderly manner. Develop and maintain a healthy relationship with parents and children. Assist in the ongoing evaluation process needed to assess the developmental levels of children. Provide appropriate guidance to children in need of redirection and relate well to children of all abilities. Perform necessary duties to ensure children’s comfort and well being (may include diaper changing). OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Attend monthly staff meetings and relevant training as required by the YMCA and DHHS. Participate in basic housekeeping duties during classroom time. Assist Head Teacher in the orientation process of new families in the program. Perform all other duties necessary for the good of the organization. QUALIFICATIONS: Must be 18 years old Previous experience working with infants, toddlers and preschoolers preferred Ability to follow NAEYC requirements CPR, First Aid, AED certifications, we will provide this training BENEFITS: Free individual Y Membership and paid time off.
